Number Formatter

Clean currency, decimals, percentages and thousand separators.

Convert text that looks numeric — “$1,234.50”, “(500)”, “45%” — into real numbers, then apply a consistent display format across the column. Handles European decimal commas and accounting-style negative parentheses.

What it does well

  • Strips currency symbols, spaces and thousand separators before parsing
  • Accounting negatives in parentheses parsed to real negative numbers

Common problems and fixes

Values still show as text after formatting.

They contain a character the parser did not recognise, often a non-breaking space. Run the Data Cleaner first, then re-format.

Large IDs are converted to scientific notation.

Exclude that column and mark it as text — identifiers should not be numbers. The type override is in the column editor.
